The First Time ever I saw your Face

from Wild Places by Andy Copeman

/

about

One of the most beautiful love songs ever written, by Ewan McColl for his beloved Peggy Seeger. It's hard to believe that this song was banned by some radio stations when it was first recorded because it talks about love-making in such an honest way.

The Sufi's often write poetry which describes the love of the divine in similar terms to the love of another human ... I believe that this song can do that in reverse: even though it is written by a man about a woman, it could easily be talking about the ineffable, the sacred, the divine.

I have coupled this with some Rumi poetry, as translated by Coleman barks.
